"Art for the Arts 2006" is a fine arts show and silent auction featuring paintings, photography, sculpture and jewelry by 21of the region's finest artists. "Art for the Arts 2006" is the fourth annual fund raiser for the non-profit Missouri River Dance Company. One of the goals of the Missouri River Dance Company is to bring together artists of different disciplines. Dancers serve as models for participating artists, both through modeling sessions, on stage, and back stage at performances. Artist Laurie Stevens, who has served as Co-Chair of "Art for the Arts" since its inception in 2003 states, "This is a wonderful opportunity for dancers and visual artists to collaborate, learn about, and develop appreciation for each other's work. It is also an excellent opportunity for visual artists to gain research of this compelling subject."
About one third of the art work in "Art for the Arts" is figurative work related to dance, and the remainder is the artist's typical subject matter including landscape, animal and still life depictions.
Art work in this show is on display at the C.M. Russell Museum from November 16 through December 12, 2006. The show moves to the Missouri Room of the Great Falls Civic Center December 14 through 17. A silent auction and reception follows the December 16 performance of "The Nutcracker." 40% of the purchase price of art work is a donation to the Missouri River Dance Company and is tax deductible. During the last three years, "Art for the Arts" has raised over $28,000 for the Missouri River Dance Company.
About the opportunity to display the "Art for Arts 2006" show at the C.M. Russell Museum, Sallyann Mulcahy, Artistic Director states,
"Collaborating with the C.M. Russell Museum is a great honor. The Missouri River Dance Company is proud to participate in bringing original Montana beauty to Great Falls, in a similar way that Charlie Russell did. he expressed his love and passion through his art as we do through ours.dance. Our Nutcracker, A Montana Dream is actually inspired by the landscape of our region expressed in the beautiful painting of the Cascade area by artist Laurie Stevens. That painting is the basis for the backdrop that is used in the ballet. It is inspiring to think that we are part of the continued creative process of Montanans. We are grateful to the C. M. Russell Museum for the opportunity to share."
